Introduction

If you have read the 'About me' page, you'll understand where the inspiration came from for this Project. I will quickly run through what this Blog is about and discuss my aims for it aswell as the Youtube Channel.

SSDR Design Project

An SSDR (Single Seat-Deregulated) is a class of Microlight in the UK, many countries have similar class aircraft such as the US Part-103. Europe has several, with Germany having the most similar 120Kg category. The UKs SSDR came about to help the UKs somewhat inactive general aviation industry... The UK was once at the forefront of aircraft design though now it has large contributions to make to international projects. The CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) allowed the deregulation of all single seat microlights that have a MTOW of 300Kg,315Kg(with BRS) or 330Kg Amphibian. This class is an interesting step for the highly governed UK aviation industry as this class allows anyone to design, build and fly their own aircraft as long as appropriate insurances and such are in place, without the need of extensive design reviews, certifications etc. This offers great flexibility to UK engineers or international who wish to target a similar class aircraft to the UK and countries with similar class aircraft.

My Project

My aim: This project will start with an initial set of goals. Rough sketches and preliminary calculations to get an estimate of desired wing areas, tail areas, CL and Max CL(Critical as the SSDR has a maximum allowable stall speed of 35Kts) These figures will give me an initial point at which to start the design stage. After this, preliminary drawings can be produced. This stage is when the aircraft will be fitted around the Pilot, engine, fuel tank landing gear etc... Since this aircraft will be small, factors such as seating position for the pilot in relation to the wing are critical.
The design will then progress from this point, covering structures, aerodynamics etc. The goals of the design will be covered in much more detail in the Blogs posts as well as each design review and design targets. This Blog is essentially a diary for me log my design activities and share them with those are are interested in Aviation.

Thank you if this has sparked an interested, I hope you come back and see what stages I am at in this process. This should be an exciting project where It would be super for a culmination  of people to take interest and share their opinions.
